Kazakh Poles as an element of the Soviet modernization project. During the Soviet period, Kazakhstan, inhabited by over 100 nationalities, played the role of a kind of laboratory in which gigantic social experiments were carried out. Poles occupied a low position in the ethnic and religious hierarchy of Kazakhstan, although they tried to improve this state of affairs at all costs. Not having the opportunity to participate in the huge patriotic upheaval of the Great Patriotic War, they were looking for a suitable mythological niche, and as Catholics in Kazakhstan for many years they were doomed to function in the underground. The book is the first attempt in our historiography to set the history of the Polish minority in Kazakhstan so firmly in the local historical context.
