The book is devoted to housing and food patterns of the peoples of the Caucasus. The authors try to demonstrate some common traits, more or less manifest in food and dwelling of most peoples of the Caucasus, in these spheres of material culture, alongside with the broadest cultural diversity. The existing variations reflect the importance of vertical zoning, as well as diverse cultural influences from the adjacent regions: the Mediterranean - Balcan area, the Near East, especially Iran, and the great Eurasian Steppe Belt.
