The author explores how the peasantry left villages to exploit new earning opportunities in Russian centers, mostly in Moscow and St. Petersburg. His objective is to provide a recontextualization of Russian peasant labor migration, a restoration of village social relations as the ground for understanding and interpreting peasant experience outside the village.
