Journalist, janitor, parasite, landlord, writer... The author of this book is a man searching for his place in this world.
That place could have been a cozy editorial office of a metropolitan magazine or a trendy hipster coworking space. But it was his grandfather's house in Polesia, on the very edge of Belarus, at the crossroads of worlds.
This book isn't about rebuilding a dilapidated house, planting a vegetable garden, milking a goat, living in the countryside and not sleeping. This book is about rebuilding a dilapidated self. Perhaps it's about returning to your roots, to your native linguistic and cultural elements, and about the importance of not losing your grandmother's stories. Or perhaps it's about becoming yourself.
Andrius Horvat kept a diary, "Radziva Pond," for three years. Excerpts from it were published in the newspaper and on his Facebook page. According to the newspaper's editors, it was the most read text on the website in 2015. So, perhaps it's not so badly written.
Andrus Horvat worked as a journalist and also as a cleaner at the Yanka Kupala Theater in Minsk before moving to the countryside. This is the beginning of a diary that has won several prestigious literary awards, numerous positive and inspiring reader reviews, and become a legendary work, previously available only at the Kupala Theater box office.
