With this book, writer and teacher Adela Ballova (1861–1903) emerges from behind the veil of distant times onto the Slovak cultural scene. Five short stories vividly reflect the problems of young Slovak women at the end of the 19th century and their efforts for emancipation. Adela found understanding for her talents in her father, who provided her with an education that was unusual for a woman at that time. Unfortunately, the author's talent faded prematurely in the Hungarian environment. The first edition of a rare work from the Slovak historical treasury, which had long lain dormant in the Literary Archives of the Slovak National Library.
