The author of this book Modris Zihmanis took part in the national liberation movement called "forest brothers" during World War II. After the war he was condemned to 25 years of prison. His literary activity started in the 1950's but he had no chance to publish his works until Latvia became independent. The novel "Paradise of Death" narrates about the complicated destinies of Latvian people during the war and after it.
