The XXth century was marked by numerous tragic events such as mournful World War II, when tens of millions people perished. One of the most significant events of this war was the blockade of the city of Leningrad, when its three-million population together with four hundred thousand children turned out to be under the conditions of starvation, severe winter and cruel enemy attacks. Tens of thousands of children became orphans but urgently established orphan houses managed to save orphaned children. Based on archival materials, memoirs of former teachers and inmatess, the book offers many copies of real documents.
