Oranienbaum is a Russian royal residence, located on the Gulf of Finland west of St. Petersburg. The Palace ensemble and the city centre are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Over three centuries a city grew from the imperial residence, whose fate was linked with palatial estate, sea, Kronstadt, military history, and cultural life of Russia. In 1948 the town changed its historical name and was called Lomonosov, but managed to maintain a long-standing traditions of Oranienbaum.
