As a community center secretary, Iliana Dechkova researched the works of well-established ethnographers to glean information about old Bulgarian customs. At first, she did it for herself, but eventually decided that she should share her findings with the world. She says: "I am not exactly an author, I didn't invent anything. I just realized that libraries contained interesting information, many old publications, which, unfortunately, no one would read anymore. At the same time I see that people nowadays are interested in old customs. So I collected and arranged what had been written."
