Fedor Livanov was a graduate of the Kazan Theological Academy. The book is based on the materials of the archives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The writer aimed at exposing Old Believers and their sectarian secrets. Due to the very poor quality of the original image the 5th volume is not a reprint edition. It was typed according to modern rules of the Russian orthography.
