This is the first edition of a handwritten cookbook from Zhovkva, which was compiled by a young lady - Genusya Doloshytska during 1907-1909. You will not find here the usual dishes for Ukrainian cuisine: dumplings, stuffed cabbage, borscht. Probably because almost every Ukrainian housewife knew how to cook them without any recipes. Instead, the book presents dishes of exquisite, even aristocratic Ukrainian cuisine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries: Violet syrup, Zupa migdalova (served on Holy Evening, but without milk), Birthday cake (using syrup from rose petals), Cinnamon cake, Cake . Here is a picture of ancient Ukrainian cuisine, which does not fit into the framework of our imagination.
