This monograph undertakes a comprehensive historical and legal study of the judicial system, legal proceedings, and punishment practices among the Don Cossacks in the second half of the 19th century. It introduces previously unpublished archival documents and, for the first time, makes extensive use of materials from local newspapers published in the Don Host Oblast during the specified period. The inclusion and analysis of substantial factual material allow the author to examine the actors, structure, content, and distinct characteristics of Don Cossack customary law — ultimately revealing the mechanisms of its functioning.
