The calendar of the old Sumerian city Nippur (now Niffer in Iraq) played a very important role in the cultural history of the ancient Middle East. During the third millenium B.C. it was a local calendar. However, after Ur III came to power it was widely spread in the whole Babylonia, and greatly influenced Hebrew, Syriac and Syro-Arabic chronological systems. This work deals with cuneiform sources concerning the Nippur calendar and its rituals. The book aims to analyze all these texts and to draw parallel between the Nippur calendar and the solar Zodiac.
