Ivan Dmitrievich Andreev (1912-1999) was a geophysicist, polar explorer, front-line soldier. He spent his childhood in Ulyanovsk. The book presents his memories about wintering at the glaciometeorological observatory located in the Pamir mountains, on the Fedchenko glacier, at an altitude of more than 4 thousand meters above sea level.
