Julia Fedorchuk's short story book "Near the Edges" is a good example of contemporary Polish prose. Twenty-two stories of differentness, strangeness, and unusual encounters reinforce the reader's faith in the beauty and power of the story. In each of the stories in the collection, we are introduced to characters for whom, in fact, there is no place in the world, and readers see the reality from their perspective. Therefore, the world portrayed by the writer is not always pleasant and not easily perceived, but always arouses emotions.
