This book is devoted to the analysis of one of the most key problems of modern public consciousness – nation-building and the formation of national identities in the post-Soviet countries of Central Asia. The author of the book examines these processes through their reflection in cinema in different historical eras: during the years of the "thaw" – the 60s of the twentieth century; "perestroika" – 1985-1991; the first years of independence – 1991-1997, and, finally, during the period of conscious nation-building – 1998-2024. The chronological principle of the book's construction also allows us to trace the dynamics of changes in cinema of images from the individual to the nation.
