The book is the second edition of the author's monograph of the same name, published in 2018 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic, revised, improved and supplemented. The monograph examines the naming of the new independent nation-state "Azerbaijan" established in 1918 in the historical territories of Northern Azerbaijan and the unequivocal response of this event to a number of foreign forces and countries, primarily the Iranian state and press. Written on the basis of extensive sources, including periodicals, archival documents, and research papers from various countries, the word "Azerbaijan" was introduced into the South Caucasus Turkic-language press and Azerbaijani literature by Azerbaijani intellectuals in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is stated in the political thought and in the minds of the Azerbaijani people that the state established in 1918 is called "Azerbaijan" on the historical-national basis. During the anti-Azerbaijani campaign launched in Iran in connection with this historical event, these examples were translated from Persian and included in the "Appendices" section of the 2nd edition of the book in order to convey to the Azerbaijani reader the views of the Iranian press, individual writers and authors on the history of Azerbaijani territories and people. . Relevant works of MA Rasulzadeh, who took part in the controversy with the Iranian press and authors, are also included in this section.
