The edition represents the first experience of ordering of data on Vepsian mythology in an encyclopedia genre. The object of research — the mythology — is considered in a broad sense: as a world picture, system of traditional outlook, language of traditional culture; in many aspects: studying history, genesis and historical development, local versions. The considerable part of the encyclopedia is made by the explanatory dictionary of 369 mythological terms. The arch of knowledge on Vepsian mythology includes also a general characteristic of history and culture of Vepsians, the historiographical review of the object of research, a sketch about the basic links Vepsian mythological system, the Vepsian-Russian and Russian-Vepsian indexes, the bibliography. The encyclopedia is intended for representatives of humanities (ethnographers, specialists in folklore, linguists, etc.) and all interested in Vepsian traditional culture.
