The son of the Ukrainian sultana Shekhsuvar (Maria), Osman III, the oldest in the history of the Ottoman Empire ascended the throne at the age of 55. During his short reign (1754–1757), a number of suspicious deaths occurred in the harem. The loudest was the loss of the heir to the throne — 42-year-old Mehmed.
