Mitrofan Viktorovich Dovnar-Zapolsky - Russian and Soviet historian, ethnographer, folklorist, economist, founder of Belarusian national historiography. Doctor of History, Professor. The collection includes archival documents, correspondence and memoirs that cover the life and scientific path of the famous historian, ethnographer and economist Mitrofan Downar-Zapolski (1868-1934). Most materials are printed for the first time.
Mitrafan Downar-Zapolski was at the origins of the scientific and public "discovery of Belarus", and in 1918 as a politician of the Belarusian People's Republic he supported its aspiration for state independence.
His historical, archeographic and ethnographic works became the foundation of Belarusian studies.
The collection, prepared by Valentina Myatlitskaya, includes previously unpublished documents from the archives of Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, as well as his epistolary legacy, memoirs of relatives and colleagues, periodicals. These materials open many unknown pages of the life of the famous scientist and invite to new researches.
