Based on the involvement of a wide range of statistical and archival sources, the work presents the early history of searches for precious metals in the Urals in the 15th - early 18th centuries, deposits of minerals preceding the beginning of their industrial extraction. Shown are the volumes of gold, platinum, osmous iridium and silver mining in the 18th - early 20th centuries, both in the Urals as a whole and in individual districts of the region, and a comparison of the Urals with other gold mining regions of Russia and the world.
