The monograph by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Ilya Vasilyevich Toropitsyn is devoted to a little-studied aspect of the service activity of Astrakhan Yurt Tatars, focusing on their participation in various military campaigns conducted by the Moscow state from the second half of the 16th century to the first quarter of the 18th century. The book examines their involvement in the Livonian War of the late 16th century, wars with Poland, numerous campaigns against the Crimean Khanate, and the Northern War against Sweden. The monograph provides numerous examples of how the Yurt Tatars participated in offensive and defensive actions, field battles, and the defense of fortifications (cities and military camps), both collectively and individually, carrying out reconnaissance and capturing prisoners.
