In the book covers eighty years of the life of Vilnius and the people of Vilnius. The destinies of the townspeople were more or less influenced by emigration from the city and immigration to it, beginning with the mass evacuation from Vilnius at the beginning of the First World War (1915) and ending with re-emigration in the first years of restored Lithuanian independence (1994). Residents of the capital had to experience both forced (deportees, prisoners, etc.) and voluntary (work, demobilization, family reunification, etc.) migrants. However, it was migration that made Vilnius what it is today - a multi-ethnic metropolis open to various cultures and experiences.
