The ancient settlement of Metsamor is dated close to the Middle Quaternary period (Acheulian Musterain), characterized by volcanic cones rising in the center of the fertile valley of the Ararat, located on the sources of the river Metsamor. The fortified sector of the settlement has an area about 30 hectares and is clearly delimited by the swampy banks of the river Metsamor and its left-side tributaries.
