This scientific and methodological manual examines the main methods and techniques for collecting field material used in ethnographic science. The factors influencing the completeness and depth of the collected ethnographic information are identified. In connection with the expansion of the subject area of ethnography, special attention is paid to the issue of the relevance of interdisciplinary methods in historical and ethnological research. The importance of studying ethnocultural processes and the results of interethnic interaction in the field of traditional rituals of a single ethnic community (the problem of ethnogenesis of which is not resolved) through the cultural and historical context of its life and the nature of relations with neighboring peoples is shown. In the proposed methodology, the author proceeds from his own almost thirty years of ethnological experience in the study of Gagauz problems and personal experience of work in the “field”, which is presented to him through autoethnography.
This scientific and methodological manual is the first in Gagauz studies. It includes a questionnaire program developed by the author to collect field material related to the traditional everyday and festive culture of the Gagauz people. It makes it possible not only to identify ethno-regional features in the sphere of traditional spiritual culture in various groups of Gagauz, but also to consider the processes in the field of cultural genesis on the basis of the data obtained. The method proposed by the author is universal, since the developed questionnaire program can be used for in-depth study of calendar rituals not only among various groups of Gagauz, but also among other ethnic groups.
