Sultan Osman II (reigned 1618–1622) is known in Ukraine for the Khotyn War, in which he did not win a convincing victory over the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. And the Ukrainian Cossacks played an important role in this. Despite this, the passionate love of this sultan, who ascended the throne at the age of 14, was precisely the Ukrainian captive Meleksima. On the way to reuniting with her, Osman II experienced many sad events - the premature deaths of his parents - Sultan Ahmed and his mother - Valide Mahfiruz, a change in the terms of succession in the Ottoman Empire, which briefly deprived him of the right to power, and, in the end, his dream of ascending the throne, which turned into a tragedy.
