Dr. E.Nowosielska is a head of the Laboratory of Retrospective Bibliography of the 19th and 20th cc. at the Institute of History named after Tadeusz Manteuffel of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, currently she supervises and conducts research on the Polish emigration press in the years 1865-1918. The book discusses the approach to people considered mentally ill in the 17th and 18th century Poland. The author tries to indicate the functioning methods of recognizing and evaluating people who do not meet the criteria of normality adopted at that time, their legal situation, and, if it was possible, the conditions of their functioning in society.
