The doctors of Jewish origin played a special role in Lithuanian medical history: 44 percent of Vilnius doctors and 86 percent of dentists were Jews (1908), about 42 percent of doctors in Lithuania were Jews (1939); the prominent doctors and public figures Zemach Shabad and Jacob Wygodzki worked in Vilnius. The history of medicine from the XVIIth century, biographies of medical dynasties are presented in the book.
