Lviv of 1908. A few days after the assassination of the imperial governor Andrzej Potocki. Protests, riots and mutinies engulf the city. Thirteen-year-old beggar Viktor decides one evening to sneak into his favorite bookstore and steal a book. But he finds a dead bookseller there and accidentally sees monster killers. He returns to his beggar's tent town and finds that everyone has been killed - the monsters were the first to get there and are now demanding the boy's medallion, which he stole from the bookstore.
