In a book already known in Ukraine by a Canadian historian and political scientist, one of the most important and most falsified periods in Ukrainian history, the first half of the eighteenth century, is analyzed. On the basis of numerous documents in the context of European history, the activity of the hetmans of Mazepa, Orlyk and their like-minded people is covered, and its influence on the Ukrainian independence of the XXth and the XXth centuries is shown.
