Polyhistorian, evangelical theologian, pedagogue and geographer Matej Bel of Ocova (1684-1749), "the great ornament of Hungary", is one of the most overlooked personalities of Europe. The monograph enriches history with a slice of the so-called empathic history. It consists of two parts. On the one hand, it presents Bel as a publisher in the tangle of relationships he entered into as a scientist and organizer of scientific life. It reveals the behind-the-scenes workings of the media during his lifetime and the strategies of his actors. On the other hand, it presents a translation of an authentic text making his ideas and efforts present. At the same time, it leads the reader to the theme of translation as a linguistic and cultural-historical phenomenon.
