The author, Gen. Todor Boyadzhiev, worked with the Bulgarian intelligence services for more than 30 years. Starting off as a lieutenant, he climbed up the hierarchy all the way to Deputy Chief of Intelligence. In 1990, after the fall of communism, he became the first Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. While pursuing an intelligence career, Boyadzhiev also served as Deputy Commercial Representative of Bulgaria in the United States and Minister Plenipotentiary of the Bulgarian Mission to the United Nations in New York. He sat in Bulgaria's 7th Grand National Assembly (1990-1991).
