The objects of the “dark” (or “conflict”, “violence”, “cruelty”) heritage are not only tourist, places of remembrance for victims of totalitarian regimes and official ceremonies related to the formation of historical memory policies, but also places where people can be perceived and reflected suffering. The former Macikai camps are of special significance in Lithuania not only due to the size and internationality of the territory, but also due to the change of purpose of this area during 1941–1956 period.
