The book reflects several research topics: the most important stage in the life of an outstanding writer, publicist and playwright in an ancient Russian village on the Volga, as well as the history and ethnography of the village Krasnovidovo itself. In connection with the biography of M. Gorky, the book reveals the life and work of his close acquaintances (the narodnik M. Romas and the writer V. Korolenko), and through the history of the village of Krasnovidovo it tells about the famous countryman A. Salmin, who gained his fame thanks to the trilogy "Storm on the Volga".
