The book includes a wide range of documents issued by the chancery of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the reign of Sigismundus Augustus in 1567-1569. Represented in Old Slavonic, they provide ample information about the state form of government and help to imagine clearly home policy of the state. All the materials are related to the condition of the state treasury, difficulty in collecting taxes, the defense of the state (hiring of army, payment to mercenaries, building and strengthening of castles, founding of cannons, confiscation of estates for nonarrival to military service, etc.), the exemption of towns from taxes due to their late fires, the appointment of state officers, protection of woods and setting of land boundaries.
