The book is the first complete publication of a unique diary: it was kept almost daily in Nazi-occupied Yalta by city resident Nikolai Deshkin (1886-1967). The value of this document is that the author was much more informed than the average person, since he worked as a cashier of the Yalta city government. In his diary notebooks he meticulously wrote down much of what he saw and experienced during the day - so for three and a half difficult years. Deshkin's diary is a most valuable historical source; so far this is the only known, relatively complete chronicle of occupied Yalta.
