The first part of the “Stalingrad dilogy” by V.Grossman, written in 1960, was banned by the Soviet press and arrested by the KGB. The exemplar, which had been saved by miracle, was published in 1980 in Switzerland and then in Russia in 1988. The Stalingrad drama is portrayed by the author as a historical drama of the Russian people, who, after the victory over a cruel and powerful enemy, had to face the internal contradictions of the totalitarian regime.
