The second volume of a critical edition of the postwar correspondence of Anna and Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz. 152 letters are published, the entire surviving correspondence of the couple from this period. An extensive preface provides the context and the most important events that serve as the backdrop for the correspondence. It documents Anna and Jaroslaw's family and home life, artistic and literary life under Stalinism, the bleakest period of postwar Polish history. External circumstances mean that social or political events rarely appear in the correspondence, and Anna's frank and emotional opinions on the erection of the Dzerzhinsky monument in Warsaw are immediately met with a rebuking retort from Jaroslaw. Therefore, high-level politics figures little in the letters, although Jaroslaw does not shy away from public activity, particularly in the so-called peace movement. Among public affairs, the most information and opinions can clearly be found on cultural life, especially in the field of literature. Iwaszkiewicz was involved in the work of the Polish PEN Club, the Writers' Union, the Chopin Society and the Czytelnik publishing house.
