Leopold Iashchenko (1928-2016) is a Ukrainian with a capital letter, an outstanding cultural and public figure, a sixtier, musicologist, folklorist, composer, founder and long-term leader of the ethnographic choir "Homin", laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine. For finding, preserving and popularizing works of the traditional song culture of Ukraine, Leopold Yashchenko was accused of "bourgeois nationalism", dismissed from the post of senior researcher at the Maxim Rylsky Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, expelled from the Union of Composers of Ukraine.
