The famous architect Hnat Kuroghan lives in a luxurious estate near Kyiv. Soon he will celebrate his 88th birthday, so his sons and granddaughter will come to him - ostensibly to congratulate him. However, the guests hope for only one thing: to get as much of the old man's inheritance as possible. Each of Hnat's relatives is forced to look for a lot of money - because of a passion for alcohol or gambling, their own ambitions or laziness.
But unexpectedly, on the eve of the celebration, one of Hnath Kuroghan's sons is found murdered in the castle library.
