The book represents the fist large-scale publication of the kind and is devoted to the Russian late academic and salon art of the second half of the XIXth – beginning of the XXth century. This kind of art has been recently criticized for being antisocial, empty, and pompous. But today it seems to gain the public's confidence again. The publication presents over 400 illustrations of the works by such famous artists like Aivazovskii, Semiradskii, Kharlamov, Makovskii, Sverchkova, Klever, and others.
