Contemporary migration researchers strive to understand why people change their place of residence, sometimes even several times in their lives. They also examine how this affects the social and spatial structure of the country. In his book, Mateusz Dlugosz focuses on identifying the impact of the largest metropolitan areas: Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Lodz, Poznan, and the Tricity (Gdansk-Sopot-Gdynia-Trojmiasto), on spatial population changes, and on the mechanisms that shape migration movements in Poland. The author examines demographic and social changes between 2002 and 2018 in terms of their impact on migration decisions.
