The book continues the multi-volume encyclopedic publication “Languages of the World”, and contains articles about all Baltic languages (both currently spoken and extinct), as well as a general review of this branch of Indo-European family. All articles are written in accordance with a standard typologically-oriented template, which imposes sociolinguistic, diachronic and synchronic structural characterization upon individual languages, and ensures commensurability of the descriptions of different languages.
