This study is the first in Ukrainian linguistics, in which the relationship between language and man, language and nation, language and state is considered in ontological and diachronic dissection: language is not only a prerequisite for human existence and society - it is the basis of its creation over the centuries (from XI to mid XIX century). The uniqueness and phenomenal nature of the Ukrainian situation is that it was not the state that stood guard over the language, but the language provided all the opportunities for the revival of the nation and the state. This phenomenon lies in the metaphorical definition of language as "beauty and power." “Beauty” is the most open sound side of the language, and “power” is its social and creative role in the Ukrainian nation-state. The beauty and power of language is what "moved from the decline the mass, which, apparently, had no salvation" (Ivan Franko).
