Lambros Katsonis (1752-1805) was a Greek serving in the Russian army. He was initiator and captain of the Russian fleet in the Mediterranean Sea during the Russian-Turkish war (1787-1729). His biography is full of secrets and mysteries. Lambros Katsonis was a lucky “pirate” wearing Austrian uniform and fighting under the Russian flag, a Greek patriot who declared a personal war to the Osman Empire, a Russian officer, a talented captain. Being bold and uncompromising he had enemies among the Romanovs but later could claim a fair court and returned rewards and high ranks to himself.
