The creative work of Mikhail Ivchenko (1890-1939) belongs to the little-studied pages of modern literary criticism, because his works have not been translated for almost sixty years. In 1919 the first collection of short stories by the writer "Spring Noises" was published. After the publication in 1929 of the novel "Labor Force" and the infamous IED process, he was deprived of the opportunity to engage in literary work. The polemical novel "Labor Forces" raises the question of the formation of the Ukrainian intelligentsia, culture and development of the nation in a totalitarian state. The protagonist of the work, the Ukrainian intellectual Professor Savlutinskaya, fully participates in the creation of a new era, while remaining spiritually independent of any ideological pressure. The deepening of his views on the development of society, nation, man is due to constant reflection, discussion and internal struggle.
