Kyazim Bekkiyevich Mechiyev (1859–1945) was the great Balkar poet, educator, humanist philosopher, founder of Balkar poetry and the literary Balkar language, and a member of the USSR Writers’ Union since 1940. This monograph explores the ethical and moral worldview expressed in Mechiyev’s poetry. It attempts to map the full spectrum of his lyrical work—from love poetry to social themes—and examines the influence of Turkic and Eastern poetry on the development of his artistic vision.
