The book publishes the memoirs of the last secretary of Leo Tolstoy, an outstanding cultural figure, writer Valentin Fedorovich Bulgakov (1886-1966), a native of Kuznetsk (now Novokuznetsk), about his childhood spent in his hometown, about the period of the late XIX - early XX centuries. It also publishes memoirs of his younger brother Veniamin Fedorovich Bulgakov (1889 - 1976), a famous teacher, museum worker.
