In his confession-like prose V.Shalamov (1907-1082) negates the necessity of suffering. The writer is convinced that in Kolyma prisoner camps it is not purification, but corruption of human soles that takes place. In his poetic writings Shalamov hymns spiritual strength of a person being able to think about love, devotion, history and art even under the severe conditions of the camp.
