The proposed book is divided into three parts. The first part came from the pen of A.Meshcheriakov, the distinguished scientist and author of numerous works on ancient and medieval history of Japan who shows the reader peculiarities of life in this country in indissoluble connection of present and past. The second part of the work includes notes of missionaries-Jesuits who propagated Christianity in Japan in XVI-XVII centuries. The last part comprises archival documents, traveler's diaries and memoirs of Europeans who visited Japan in the XVII-XIXth centuries. The book is perfectly illustrated.
